Illustrations

In the text by letterpress, imaginative drawings from old prints; line engravings from camera pictures; a charcoal protrait of Minnie Myrtle Miller by Bernard Hinshaw; a woodcut by H. Macarthey in 1896. Reproduced by offset, thirty-one pages of photographs from the Pioneer Museum at Coquille and from private collections. Endpapers are from an old unsigned watercolor painting for many years in the Tichenor family; though the view is dated 1859, it is similar in details of the town to a woodcut in Harper's Magazine in 1855.
