505 Railroad Street
"
Old Myrtle Point Grade School
"
One of the original school houses in Myrtle Point (often called the "Little white schoolhouse"),
this building was closed when the new grammar school on Spruce street was completed. It is
shown on the 1920 Sanborn insurance maps as unused. It most likely sat empty
for many years, until the Brethren Church remodeled the school as a church in 1949.
It was later sold to the Community Church who has done additional remodeling, however,
the building still retains that school like feel.

"After the Myrtle Point Church of the Brethren sold their property at 7th & Spruce, they bought 2 lots with a building that had been a school from Frank and Anne Tripp. They bought one lot on Railroad Avenue, next to the two lots from Walter & Ella Tripp. They hired Arden Floyd and James Travis to fix the foundation and new roof on the building. They had Floyd Bridgham do all the electric work. The trustees, of the church, with volunteer help lowered the ceiling in the dining room, build Sunday school class rooms above it and built the kitchen on the back of the building. The cupboards in the kitchen are the ones from the kitchen in the property on Spruce Street. The ceiling in the dining room and class rooms are hung from the roof."
